In moments of pure simplicity, perfect moments can occur. This is exactly what James and I discussed when talking about getting engaged. We would often day dream of different scenarios together, some being very elaborate and others not so much. Ultimately, I think we each agreed that when the time came, we didn't want it to be this perfectly planned moment. But rather, a simple moment made perfect by the act of love.

The night it happened, was so similar to many, many other nights. We were supposed to go to the gym, but after long days we opted for eating dinner together and just relaxing. We ordered our favorite, Symphony Sushi, and grabbed some beer/wine to enjoy. At the time, we didn't have a dining room table, so instead we created a picnic on our bedroom floor using our file box and throw pillows.

It was after dinner when James and I were still sitting on the floor, that we started talking about the future. At the time, so many people around me were getting married or engaged, and chalk it up to a long day or maybe just jealousy, but I started to get upset. We had been talking about getting engaged for a while, and it just seemed like it was taking forever. James, like always, changed the subject after I started to get upset and suggested we plan our weekend. He mentioned that we had a ton of giftcards to places and we should see if we could put any to good use. So he stood up and went to rummage through his closet where we keep the tin can of gift cards that we've accumulated. Coming back he placed the tin can in front of me, and as I open it I notice him getting down on his knee, when I look in the can there is the tiny ring box and the last thing I can remember is him saying, "I love you. Will you marry me?"

From there I can't remember much, except crying like an crazy person. And, this was not the dainty crying, I'm talking the full on mascara dripping down my face kind. The proposal was nothing extravagant. He didn't plan it out. It was spur of the moment and simple. And, it was perfect!
